Golfing

Southern Alberta’s warm temperatures and lack of precipitation are the ideal combination for great golf. In some parts of southern Alberta golfers are able to tee off as early as March and can play well into November. To make this possible golf courses rely on irrigation as well as the weather. Golf course water usage is a highly engineered aspect particularly in southern Alberta where much of the water is supplied by irrigation. The ponds located throughout the many golf courses in this region are not just aesthetic and playing features, but are engineered to store water for irrigation. The use of irrigation has enabled locals and visitors alike to golf in some Alberta’s most picturesque settings.

In southern Alberta 29 golf courses rely on water delivered to them through irrigation canals, pipelines and reservoirs. Check them out in the Water, Fun & Campgrounds booklet
