Thanks to irrigation southern Alberta’s irrigation storage reservoirs provide a wide range of water-based recreation activities. Whether it is swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, bird watching or other water- related fun activities, without irrigation none of these pursuits would be possible in southern Alberta.

Irrigation districts own and operate 41 irrigation storage reservoirs and the Government of Alberta owns an addtional 11 reservoirs that support irrigation operations across the southern region. These reservoirs now exist in an areas that prior to the irrigation delivery system no large permanent bodies of standing water existed. If you've ever visited a 'lake' in southern Alberta chances are you have been at an irrigation storage reservoir and may not have know it.
